Behemoth’s Pet Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
## My Thoughts on Behemoth’s Pet
"Behemoth's Pet" had a premise that really snagged my attention: a reincarnation story where the protagonist becomes a monster and has to claw his way to the top. I dove in hoping for a unique power-fantasy adventure. What I found was...well, a mixed bag, to say the least.
### First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked. The idea of a former human becoming a kitten-like behemoth with the ability to gain skills by consuming other monsters felt fresh. The early chapters had a certain charm, and I was eager to see how the MC would navigate his new life. However, that initial excitement started to wane as I progressed.
### What Works Well
The fast-paced nature of the story, especially in the earlier chapters, kept me engaged. I also appreciated the interactions between the main character and some of the other characters; the "cute cat" dynamic can be quite endearing. Some readers have also mentioned that the plot picks up again later on, introducing intriguing new elements. I also agree with some who enjoyed the world-building early on, it seemed promising.
### Areas of Concern
Okay, let's address the elephant in the room, or rather, the *mountains* on the female lead. A recurring and significant criticism is the over-the-top focus on the female lead's breasts. It’s not just ecchi; it borders on obsessive, with entire passages dedicated to describing them. This quickly becomes tiresome and overshadows any potential plot development or character growth. It got to the point where I felt that a lot of the story revolved around this one aspect.
Another issue I encountered was the lack of consistent world-building beyond the immediate surroundings of the main characters. The world felt somewhat shallow, with limited interaction with non-essential characters. I also found myself frustrated with the MC's tendency to hold back his powers. While there might be a reason for it, it felt like he was sacrificing potential for no real gain.
### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out that the story contains thinly veiled references to other media, which can be distracting. For example, the appearance of a character strongly resembling a popular VTuber. If you're easily put off by such blatant homages, it might be a sticking point.
### Final Verdict
"Behemoth’s Pet" has potential, but it's bogged down by its excessive focus on certain elements. If you can stomach the over-the-top ecchi content and somewhat shallow world-building, there might be some enjoyment to be found in the fast-paced plot and cute cat antics. However, if you're looking for a more substantial and nuanced story, you might want to give this one a pass, or perhaps check out the manga adaptation instead, which some say is far superior. Ultimately, it's a matter of personal preference, but I can't wholeheartedly recommend this novel in its current state.
