Coming of the Villain Boss! Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
## My Thoughts on Coming of the Villain Boss!
"Coming of the Villain Boss!" is a wild ride of a quick transmigration story, and I can definitely see why it has such a dedicated fanbase. While it shares some similarities with the author's other work, "Side Character Transmigrations: The Final Boss is No Joke," it quickly establishes its own unique flavor.
### First Impressions
I admit, my first impression of the main character, Ming Shu, was a bit… complicated. Her obsession with food, particularly snacks, is definitely played up in the initial arcs, and it can feel a little repetitive. I was almost put off by her seemingly indifferent attitude towards everything, but I decided to stick with it, and I'm glad I did.
### What Works Well
As the story progresses, Ming Shu develops into a surprisingly layered character. She's not your typical revenge-obsessed protagonist. Instead, she operates on her own moral code, often choosing the most direct route, which usually involves beating up the fake female protagonists to gain hatred points (lol). Her "I don't care" attitude is refreshing, and I found her to be genuinely entertaining.
The romance, while slow-burn, is a definite highlight. The male lead, another transmigrator with his own hidden agenda, adds a fantastic dynamic. Watching them dance around each other, testing boundaries and slowly developing genuine feelings, is incredibly engaging. I especially appreciate that the ML has his own agency and isn't just a "flower vase." Their interactions are often hilarious, filled with playful bickering and subtle displays of affection. I really enjoyed the fact that the ML wasn't the typical overbearing, cold type.
### Areas of Concern
The initial arcs might be a hurdle for some readers. Ming Shu's gluttony and seemingly heartless behavior can be off-putting. The repetitive jokes, especially regarding snacks, might also wear thin for some. I also noticed some felt the arc storylines weren't that well written.
### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviews mention the ML's mission to either make Ming Shu fall in love or eliminate her, as well as the fact that his memories are often erased. There are also hints about Ming Shu's tragic past and the reasons behind her obsession with food.
### Final Verdict
Despite some initial reservations, "Coming of the Villain Boss!" ultimately won me over. The unique main character, the engaging romance, and the overarching mysteries make it a worthwhile read. If you're willing to stick through the first few arcs, you'll be rewarded with a story that is both funny and surprisingly deep. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
