## My Thoughts on Crying in the Night, Unseen
"Crying in the Night, Unseen" is a short and sweet josei romance that I found to be a comforting, albeit brief, read. It follows a woman navigating life after a painful betrayal, and a younger man who unexpectedly finds himself drawn to her. It's a story about healing, finding connection, and maybe a little bit about the best way to someone's heart being through their stomach!
### First Impressions
I went into this novel expecting something potentially steamy, given the premise of an older woman/younger man romance and the "affair" tag. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a story that focuses more on emotional connection and character growth. The initial chapters quickly set the stage for the MC's heartbreak and the budding, unusual relationship with her coworker.
### What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters. I particularly appreciated the multiple POV, which allowed me to understand both the MC and ML's perspectives as they navigated their feelings. The female lead's vulnerability felt very real, and I could empathize with her struggles with self-esteem after being cheated on. The male lead, while a bit quirky and immature at first, grows throughout the story, and I enjoyed watching him fall for someone outside of his usual type. The interactions between the leads are a highlight – casual, friendly, and often filled with lighthearted teasing. It creates a believable foundation for their developing feelings. The author did a great job of portraying the initial awkwardness and the gradual blossoming of affection between them.
### Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and one that seems to be echoed by many other readers, is the length. The story feels rushed, particularly towards the end. I would have loved to see more development of their relationship after the confession. Additionally, I found the description of the MC as "middle-aged" a bit misleading, considering she's only 28. It plays into her own insecurities, but it doesn't quite align with reality.
### Final Verdict
Despite its brevity, "Crying in the Night, Unseen" is a charming and heartwarming story. If you're looking for a quick, low-angst read with likeable characters and a focus on emotional healing, I would recommend giving it a try. Just be prepared to wish there was more!
