Expecting to Fall into Ruin, I Aim to Become a Blacksmith Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Expecting to Fall into Ruin, I Aim to Become a Blacksmith "Expecting to Fall into Ruin, I Aim to Become a Blacksmith" presents an intriguing premise: a protagonist reincarnated into an otome game as a minor villain, determined to forge his own destiny. While the initial setup hooked me, my experience with the story has been a mixed bag, echoing sentiments I've seen echoed by other readers. ### First Impressions The early chapters drew me in with their lighthearted tone and the promise of a unique twist on the isekai genre. I enjoyed watching the MC embrace blacksmithing and attempt to alter his predetermined fate. The slice-of-life elements, particularly the focus on his family and territory, were initially charming and offered a refreshing change from more action-oriented narratives. ### What Works Well The humor definitely stands out. The series excels when it leans into its comedic side, creating genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. I found the protagonist's interactions with other characters, particularly the misunderstandings arising from his actions, to be a consistent source of amusement. The initial concept of averting a doomed future is compelling, and the early focus on blacksmithing offered a unique angle. Some readers found the MC's positive attitude and generally well-liked nature to be endearing. ### Areas of Concern Unfortunately, the initial promise seems to fade as the story progresses. I couldn't help but notice a recurring theme in reader feedback: a sense of lost potential. The blacksmithing aspect, which is central to the title, quickly becomes sidelined, losing its significance to the plot. The pacing can also feel rushed, with significant time skips and underdeveloped plot threads leaving me wanting more depth. Some found the MC's character inconsistent, alternating between capable and frustratingly passive. The plot felt directionless, with the initial goals of avoiding ruin seemingly forgotten amidst random events. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Several readers have expressed strong opinions about the later volumes, specifically regarding plot developments, character arcs, and even the ending. Be aware that reading further reviews may contain significant spoilers that could impact your enjoyment of the story. ### Final Verdict "Expecting to Fall into Ruin, I Aim to Become a Blacksmith" had the potential to be a standout isekai novel. While its humor and initial premise are appealing, its inconsistent pacing, underdeveloped plot threads, and character inconsistencies ultimately detract from the overall experience. If you're looking for a lighthearted, low-stakes read with a comedic bent, this might be worth a try. However, if you prefer a tightly plotted story with consistent character development, you might find yourself disappointed.
