Description

Yan Suizhi, the young and accomplished dean of the interstellar Maze University’s law school, wakes up in a body that has been gene-modified to resemble that of a twenty-something-year-old. He had supposedly ‘died’ in a premeditated explosion a few months ago but someone had managed to save him. In his search for his saviour as well as his mu*derer, Yan Suizhi encounters his former student, Gu Yan, who is now a successful lawyer at Southcross Law Firm.

First-Class Lawyer Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on First-Class Lawyer "First-Class Lawyer" completely subverted my expectations. Initially, the title made me think it would be a dry, legal drama, but I was pleasantly surprised by the engaging blend of mystery, sci-fi, and subtle romance. This novel sucked me in with its clever protagonist and intricate plot. ### First Impressions I was immediately drawn to the unique premise: a "dead" lawyer, Yan Suizhi, returns as an intern under his former student, Gu Yan, to uncover the truth behind his supposed demise. This reversal of roles creates a compelling dynamic, filled with witty banter and underlying tension. The futuristic, interstellar setting adds another layer of intrigue, making it more than just your average legal thriller. ### What Works Well The characters are a definite highlight. Yan Suizhi is charismatic and cunning, a "smiling tiger" who's both admired and feared. His interactions with the stoic Gu Yan are consistently entertaining. Their relationship develops at a satisfying pace, with plenty of hidden affection and longing that kept me hooked. I also appreciated the well-developed side characters, each adding depth and warmth to the story. I found the plot to be incredibly well-structured. The mysteries are captivating, with clues and foreshadowing expertly woven throughout. The author masterfully connects seemingly disparate cases to a larger conspiracy, leading to a satisfying and climactic resolution. Despite being a plot-driven story, the author doesn't shy away from exploring themes of justice, morality, and the complexities of the legal system. ### Areas of Concern While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, there were a few minor drawbacks. Some may find the pacing slow at times, with detailed descriptions that occasionally feel superfluous. Also, the legal aspects aren't always entirely realistic, with some court trials feeling rushed. However, for me, these issues didn't detract significantly from the overall enjoyment. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some readers might be disappointed that a certain unresolved plot point regarding a character named "Manson" isn't fully addressed. Additionally, the portrayal of the morality of law might not be entirely realistic for some readers. ### Final Verdict Overall, "First-Class Lawyer" is a fantastic novel that I highly recommend. It's a well-written, engaging story with compelling characters, a complex plot, and a satisfying blend of genres. If you enjoy mysteries with a touch of sci-fi, humor, and slow-burn romance, then this is definitely worth a read. I'm already looking forward to rereading it!
