I’m Not Your Usual Villain Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on I’m Not Your Usual Villain "I'm Not Your Usual Villain" presents an interesting premise: a protagonist who knows the original story and aims to dismantle the hero's advantages. It's a concept ripe with potential, but the execution, in my opinion, leaves something to be desired. ### First Impressions The initial chapters grabbed my attention with the promise of a clever protagonist outsmarting a destined hero. The idea of a villain actively working against plot armor is inherently appealing. However, that initial intrigue faded as I delved deeper. ### What Works Well The early stages of the novel definitely shine in setting up the premise. The protagonist's awareness of the original story and his calculated attempts to undermine the hero are engaging. I also appreciated the translator's notes, which helped clarify some of the cultural and cultivation-related terms. The character growth of the protagonist is also interesting. ### Areas of Concern My biggest issue lies with the portrayal of the "original hero." He's depicted as so irredeemably awful that it's difficult to understand why anyone would have considered him a hero in the first place. This undermines the entire premise of the story. It also seems that the author uses contrivances to move the story forward. The characters are one dimensional and the writing is average. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Several pivotal plot points could be considered spoilers, so be warned. The way the story handles the hero's harem also raises some red flags. The protagonist's interactions with the women who fall for the hero felt uncomfortable and, at times, bordering on misogynistic. I felt that the women are blamed for the hero's actions. ### Final Verdict "I'm Not Your Usual Villain" has a compelling concept, but the execution falls short. While the initial chapters offer intrigue, the weak characterization of the original hero, the questionable handling of the harem elements, and the inconsistencies in the plot ultimately detract from the overall experience. I'm giving it a 2.5/5.
