Review Notes

## My Thoughts on Leisure Life of Princess Yu Yu "Leisure Life of Princess Yu Yu" promised a delightful blend of modern slice-of-life with a dash of the supernatural, and while it delivered on some fronts, it stumbled in others. As a reader always on the lookout for unique combinations of genres, I was eager to dive in. ### First Impressions The initial premise is intriguing: a modern college student, or rather a recent graduate, with a past life as a princess, navigating the everyday world with a unique metaphysical skillset. The early chapters, focused on fortune-telling, feng shui, and dealing with the occasional ghost, hooked me. The blend of the mundane and the magical felt fresh and exciting. ### What Works Well I found the protagonist, Yu Yu, to be a compelling character. Her calm demeanor and ability to handle otherworldly events with grace were endearing. The author paints a vivid picture of her growing business ventures, from a humble bun shop to a sprawling resort. The familial love aspect was also a strong point, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Many will enjoy the cultivation, cooking and farming aspects of the story. ### Areas of Concern However, the novel's ambitious genre-bending also proved to be its downfall. The romance felt underdeveloped, and the male lead, while reliable, lacked depth. His personality felt bland, and his actions sometimes seemed disconnected from the main plot. The overarching plot also lost some steam as it progressed, with some plot points left unexplained. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning The ending arc, in particular, drew my ire. The introduction of amnesia felt contrived and ultimately detracted from the story's climax. The villain's motivations, rooted in a past-life obsession, felt somewhat flimsy and didn't quite justify his extreme actions. This is a problem with the story, as the main antagonist has a very underdeveloped motivation. ### Final Verdict Ultimately, "Leisure Life of Princess Yu Yu" is a mixed bag. While it boasts a charming protagonist, engaging supernatural elements, and a cozy slice-of-life vibe, it suffers from a weak romance, an uneven plot, and a disappointing conclusion. I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoy a lighthearted read with a focus on world-building and character development, but be warned that it may not fully satisfy those seeking a gripping plot or a passionate romance.
