Description

One day, a normal young boy who gave up on developing a special ability had a sudden manifestation. His ability’s name was “Sound Control (Dominant)”. This boy was the first person in the entire world who manifested the ability to control sounds. However, because of the dangers this ability posed, the young boy was acknowledged as an elimination target, therefore he was almost killed by the “Self-Defense Force”, an administrative organization that maintains public order in the human society. At that point, it was the evil organization “Anonymous” that offered this young boy a hand. And in order to continue living, the young boy took that hand.

Ototsukai wa Shi to Odoru Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Ototsukai wa Shi to Odoru Okay, let's dive into "Ototsukai wa Shi to Odoru." This one's got a bit of a mixed reception, and after looking into the various opinions, I can definitely see why. It’s a modern fantasy with action, drama, and some psychological elements, centered around a protagonist who gets caught between the "good guys" (JSDF) and a mysterious "evil" organization, Anonymous. ### First Impressions The initial hook is pretty strong. We have an initially "powerless" MC who unexpectedly awakens abilities that make him a target. Forced to choose a side, he ends up with Anonymous, an organization that, according to some, will "kill the many for the sake of one." This premise promises a morally grey story with a protagonist driven by survival, not some lofty ideal. I found that idea intriguing. ### What Works Well Many readers praised the tension and the stakes involved. Apparently, the author does a good job of making you feel like anything can go wrong, giving the story an unpredictable edge. I've read that the characters are well-developed, and the side characters are interesting. The action is decent, and the romance, while typical, is cute and fluffy. The idea of a protagonist who just wants to live, by any means necessary, is also a popular point. ### Areas of Concern Now, for the downsides. A significant point of contention seems to be the plot's direction. Some feel that after a certain point, the story becomes pointless, with no clear reason for the conflict between the organizations. Character development is also criticized, with the protagonist's motivations and personality remaining vague despite being written in the first person. The translation quality also takes a dip after a while, which can definitely impact the reading experience. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Several reviews mention issues later in the story, so proceed with caution! Some feel the author doesn't know where the story is going, leading to contradictory plot developments and a loss of focus. The reasons behind the actions of Anonymous's boss are questioned, and some find the enemies to be unintelligent, making questionable decisions during fights. The MC's relationship with Roll is also a point of criticism, with some finding it artificial and forced. ### Final Verdict "Ototsukai wa Shi to Odoru" has a lot of potential, but it seems to stumble along the way. If you're willing to overlook some plot inconsistencies, potentially weak character development, and the translation issues, you might find something to enjoy in the initial premise and action. However, be prepared for a story that might not live up to its initial promise. For me, I think I'd proceed with cautious optimism. It's a "try at your own risk" kind of novel.
