Description

ZhouXiang didn’t know if God was giving him a second chance to live because he wanted to give him extra loving care or was it because he hasn’t messed with him enough. Otherwise, how could it be that both in and out of his entertainment career, whether it was in his past life or his current life, YanMingXiu would consider him as the substitute for the same person. He also didn’t know, between him and Young Master Yan, who was actually more pitiful; the one who could only be treated as a substitute or the one could only find a substitute. In his past life, ZhouXiang was the stuntman for the big star WangYudong. But not just as his martial art stuntman….. Even within his deeply ill-fated relationship with YanMingXiu, he was also undeniably a complete substitute. Disheartened, ZhouXiang went with a group of documentary film crew into the deep valleys of the treacherous mountains. Unexpectedly, he lost his footing and fell off a cliff . When he awakened again, it was already two years later. Nevertheless, he awakened in another person’s body. What is even more tragic is that he still couldn’t escape the fate of being a substitute… T/N: 替身: Tishen is a person who replaces another; a substitute, in filming the tishen is a stuntman/body-double.

Professional Body Double Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Professional Body Double "Professional Body Double" is a rollercoaster of emotions, a true dog-blood drama that had me hooked despite my reservations. This novel dives deep into themes of love, loss, and identity, set against the backdrop of the entertainment industry. While it's not a perfect story, it definitely left a lasting impression. ### First Impressions Going in, I knew this wasn't going to be a light and fluffy read. The tags alone—abusive characters, body double, tragedy—were a clear warning. The beginning throws you right into the thick of it, with a long flashback detailing the complicated relationship between Zhou Xiang, our kind-hearted MC, and Yan Mingxiu, the younger, richer, and emotionally stunted ML. I immediately felt sympathy for Zhou Xiang, who finds himself entangled in a web of unrequited love and mistaken identity. ### What Works Well The author excels at creating flawed, complex characters. Yan Mingxiu is infuriatingly frustrating, but also, at times, pitiable. His journey of realizing his true feelings for Zhou Xiang, albeit belatedly, is a central theme of the novel. Zhou Xiang himself is a mature and relatable character, trying to navigate a difficult life with as much grace as possible. I appreciated his strength and resilience, especially in the face of constant adversity. The behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment world adds another layer of intrigue, highlighting the cutthroat nature of the industry and the sacrifices people make for fame. I was also impressed with how the author weaved in elements of fate and rebirth, adding a supernatural twist to the already dramatic storyline. ### Areas of Concern Despite the compelling narrative, there were definitely some aspects that bothered me. The ML's actions in the first life, particularly his treatment of Zhou Xiang, are difficult to stomach. The non-con elements and the power imbalance in their relationship are significant red flags. While the novel attempts to portray a redemption arc, it's questionable whether Yan Mingxiu truly earns forgiveness. Another point of contention is the constant misunderstandings and communication failures between the characters. While this fuels the angst, it can also be frustrating to watch the same patterns repeat themselves. I can see why some readers found the ending unsatisfying, feeling that Zhou Xiang was pressured into a relationship rather than choosing it freely. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Okay, let's address the elephant in the room: the ML's scumminess. In his first life, he uses Zhou Xiang as a substitute for his unrequited love, leading to immense emotional pain. He even goes so far as to sabotage Zhou Xiang's career and, indirectly, cause his death. After rebirth, he pursues Zhou Xiang again, initially viewing him as a replacement for his past self. The fact that he resorts to paying Zhou Xiang for sex is particularly disturbing. While he eventually realizes his true feelings, it's hard to forget the damage he inflicted. ### Final Verdict "Professional Body Double" is a messy, angsty, and often infuriating read. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you're a fan of dog-blood dramas with complex characters and a supernatural twist, it might just be your cup of tea. Just be prepared to have your emotions thoroughly wrung out. I'm giving it a solid 3.5/5 - points for the compelling story, but docked for the problematic elements.
