Residence of Monsters Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Residence of Monsters "Residence of Monsters" is a novel that completely charmed me with its unique blend of genres. Jumping between action, adventure, comedy, and school life, all with a healthy dose of the supernatural, I found myself constantly entertained and eager to see what would happen next. It's a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, yet manages to weave in intriguing mysteries and heartfelt moments. ### First Impressions Initially, I was drawn in by the sheer number of positive reviews, especially the recurring theme of a "cute" and "lovable" MC. Feng Ping Lan, the protagonist, is indeed a breath of fresh air. He's often perceived as somewhat dim-witted, but there's a clear intelligence and depth beneath the surface, making him far more compelling than your average airhead. The academy setting and promise of supernatural shenanigans only sweetened the deal. ### What Works Well The biggest strength of "Residence of Monsters" lies in its characters. Each one feels distinct and well-developed, with their own quirks and motivations. I particularly enjoyed the interactions between Feng Ping Lan and Quetzal, the "tsuntsun" character, as well as the dynamics within the group of friends. The author does a fantastic job of creating a sense of genuine camaraderie, making it easy to become invested in their relationships. The plot itself is a delightful mix of lighthearted comedy and underlying mystery. The unfolding of the MC's identity is a major draw, and the foreshadowing keeps you constantly guessing. Even though the series leans towards comedy, there are moments of genuine angst and emotional depth that caught me off guard. The humor is well-executed, and the story never feels dull. ### Areas of Concern While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, I can see how some might find certain aspects less appealing. The series requires a degree of suspension of disbelief, as some plot points can feel a bit illogical. Also, some readers might be disappointed if they're expecting a BL (Boys' Love) story, as the "ho-yay" elements seem more like playful teasing than a genuine romance focus. While there are strong hints and undertones, it is still a non-BL story. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning The following contains potential spoilers regarding the school festival arc: One reviewer mentioned a school festival drama involving a mermaid prince, an octopus, and a neighboring prince. If you prefer to go into the story completely blind, skip the following: The reviewer highlighted how even the school festival was "gay", with a twist involving a merman prince, an octopus in disguise, and a neighboring prince. ### Final Verdict Overall, I highly recommend "Residence of Monsters" to anyone looking for a fun, engaging, and slightly mysterious read. It's a delightful mix of genres with well-developed characters and a compelling plot. Just be prepared to embrace the series' whimsical nature and enjoy the ride!
