Description

After being transported to another world at age 15, Saitou became a great sage, defeated the demon lord, and safely returned to Japan. Expecting to live a humble life in his hometown, he instead discovered that 19 years had passed. Not to mention after saving his beautiful former classmate(now a single mom) and helping yokai, he finds himself drawing the attention of the mafia and modern day Japan’s supernatural organisations. While trying to solve his problems peacefully, the yokai began to refer to him as Master, and the mafia and supernatural organisations started to call him things like Don and Boss….. As his troubled days continue, it seems like he won’t be able to live a normal life.

The Great Sage Who Returned from Another World Wants to Live Quietly Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on *The Great Sage Who Returned from Another World Wants to Live Quietly* ### First Impressions The premise of *The Great Sage Who Returned from Another World Wants to Live Quietly* definitely caught my eye. The idea of an MC returning from an isekai adventure, especially back to Japan, is a fun twist on the genre. The initial setup, with the protagonist coming back to his childhood friend, promised a potentially heartwarming and engaging story. The concept of his powers being based on chess pieces also seemed unique and interesting. ### What Works Well The potential for a unique setting is definitely there. The blend of modern-day Japan with the magical elements brought back by the protagonist offers a lot of room for creative world-building. The idea of synergy between technology and magic, as well as magic and spirit-craft, could lead to some fascinating developments. Some side characters also have interesting potential to be fleshed out. ### Areas of Concern Unfortunately, the execution seems to be where this novel stumbles. The story feels disjointed, jumping around without a clear sense of direction. This makes it difficult to become invested in the plot or the characters. The pacing also seems rushed, preventing readers from truly connecting with the side characters and the world itself. There's also the issue of the main character's childhood friend having already moved on with her life, which may disappoint some readers hoping for a more traditional romance. ### Final Verdict *The Great Sage Who Returned from Another World Wants to Live Quietly* has an intriguing premise with flashes of brilliance, but ultimately falls short due to its disjointed narrative and rushed pacing. While the unique setting and power system offer potential, the story needs significant refinement to truly shine. It has the makings of a great story, but it needs to be fleshed out and refined.
