The Ugly Man’s Big Transformation Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on The Ugly Man’s Big Transformation "The Ugly Man's Big Transformation" is quite the rollercoaster, and my feelings about it are equally complex. It's a transmigration story set in ancient China, blending adventure, comedy, drama, and a good dose of the supernatural. The tags alone – "ugly to beautiful," "shameless protagonist," "possessive characters," and even "incest" – should tell you this isn't your typical fluffy romance. ### First Impressions Initially, I found the premise intriguing. An "ugly" man transmigrating into a beautiful body in a world of royalty and mystery? Count me in! However, I quickly understood why this novel seems to divide readers so sharply. The protagonist, Chen Youzai, is… a lot. ### What Works Well Despite his flaws, Chen Youzai's journey is ultimately what kept me reading. The novel is a slow burn, focusing on his transformation both inside and out. While some found him irritating, I appreciated seeing him gradually evolve from a naive and somewhat childish character into someone more compassionate and sensible. The romance with the Third Prince, while twisted, is compelling. The Prince is a fascinating character, and the author does a good job exploring his damaged psyche and possessive tendencies. Some readers really enjoyed the dark elements, including the "bloody deaths and skin crawling events," finding them more engaging than typical BL stories. The overarching murder mystery also adds a layer of intrigue that kept me guessing. ### Areas of Concern Chen Youzai's initial personality is definitely a sticking point. His naivety and seeming lack of awareness can be frustrating. Some readers found him so irritating that they couldn't continue the story. The plot can also feel disjointed at times, with rough transitions and unanswered questions. I can see how this would be frustrating for readers who prefer a tightly woven narrative. The translation quality may also contribute to some of these issues. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some readers expressed concerns that the MC's actions lead to the deaths of others, and that he doesn't take responsibility for those deaths. However, other readers said this was untrue. Ultimately, the MC does eventually marry the prince because he loves him. The ending is considered happy, although some say the ML doesn't become "good" by the end of the story. ### Final Verdict "The Ugly Man's Big Transformation" is a flawed but ultimately rewarding read. If you're willing to stick with it through the initial frustrations and appreciate a slow-burn character arc, you might find yourself enjoying this unique and somewhat dark tale. However, if you're easily annoyed by naive protagonists or prefer a more polished plot, this might not be the novel for you. I'd recommend going in with an open mind and a willingness to embrace the chaos.
